SUMMARY

The Specialist, Northern California Community, executes the comprehensive strategy and initiatives to achieve SHRM’s objectives and goals for CA HR professionals, initiatives, and programs. The position influences and coordinates organizational resources and collaborates with the Executive Director to activate the California strategy through programs and campaigns that engage members and prospective members in the SHRM member segments. This position serves a key role for the SHRM Northern California Community, in building relationships inside SHRM and within the volunteer leaders in driving SHRM goals and objectives with these key constituencies. Supports membership growth, engagement, and retention strategies for the California market. With the growing number of engagements and responsibilities, there is a need to optimize organizational efficiency. This dedicated role will enhance coordinating efforts, executing strategies and sponsorships, and aligning with California-specific objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Implements plan to achieve the business, operational and financial results for the SHRM Northern California Community. Works directly with the Executive Director and Senior Specialist while collaboratively working with other departments to execute the strategy.

  • Establishes, maintains, and strengthens the relationships with SHRM professional and student volunteer leaders, members, and our affiliates to achieve the SHRM’s strategy and objectives on membership.

  • Manages Volunteer Committees (e.g. Membership Engagement, Emerging Professionals, Programming, Annual Conference Planning) including setting meeting agendas, taking notes, sending to notes and communications to committee chairs, and working with the chairs to shape programs within the NorCal community plan.

  • Serves as the primary point for responding to inquiries from the SHRM website and NorCal email box regarding volunteering, certification, membership, sponsorship, opportunities.

  • Coordinates on-site office logistics including A/V setup, virtual/hybrid event technology, badge printing, registrations, event set-up and tear down.

  • Supports the team by working with the communication and marketing teams, in the execution of the marketing and communications strategy to educate, inform and engage HR Core, emerging professionals and students on the SHRM Northern California program and services

  • Creates materials, programming, and activities to educate and train volunteer leaders for their volunteer leadership roles.

  • Provides support in the coordination and execution of sponsorships relationships for programs and events

  • Provides offsite support in the exhibition of SHRM resources at external events.

  • Responsible for creating and publishing content on all social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, to grow our audience, build brand awareness, and increase community engagement

  • Is responsible for building and maintaining the SHRM NorCal online member community.

  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Human Resources, Marketing, or similar field. Advanced degree or additional certifications are helpful but not necessary.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an association, non-profit organization, or business, preferably in marketing, membership services or similar areas.

  • Minimum of 2 years of program and / or project management experience.

  • Experience in working to develop and execute a plan.

  • Experience working with volunteer leaders is preferred.

Certifications

  • None required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational and facilitation skills with demonstrated experience in project management efforts and executing an overall strategy.

  • Excellent member and customer service focus with the ability to influence and/or persuade stakeholders. Must be diplomatic, team-oriented, and sensitive to the needs of members and staff to work across a large organization, secure resources, build relationships and identify opportunities is essential.

  • Creative approaches to problem-solving are required. Ability to simultaneously coordinate a variety of complex projects and work within activity program deadlines is needed.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in giving public presentations or speaking activities.

  • Ability to manage budget and financial resources.

  • Prior work with volunteer organizations is helpful, but sensitivity to and awareness of volunteer needs is essential.

  • Proficient in using various software programs including Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Salesforce, NetSuite, or similar CRM software.

  • Experienced user of social media.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodation.

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • Expected travel is 20-30% of the time.

The hiring range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000 per year. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
