The Senior Specialist, Art Design is responsible for creating and implementing design solutions that support the brand and strategic goals from concept to completion. The position collaborates with various departments to produce SHRM conference materials, promotions, logos, brochures, publications, web graphics and other graphics projects while supporting SHRM’s mission to operate as a financially sustainable organization

Position Description

  • Ensures that creative executions meet and align with creative strategies, business objectives, and work to meet and/or exceed expectations of quality, budget, and deadline.

  • Communicates and collaborates with clients, project managers and other stakeholders.

  • Translates business requirements, user goals and branding into visually stimulating print and digital designs.

  • Utilizing tools within the Adobe Creative Suite, develops brochures, conference materials, promotions, logos, publications, media kits, ads, digital media, and other assets needed by SHRM project managers and stakeholders.

  • Designs graphics for all SHRM's digital touchpoints, including but not limited to banner ads and other media projects.

  • Creates moderately- to highly complex print projects and carries these projects from inception through to final press inspection.

  • Commissions illustrators and photographers when required and coordinates pricing and schedules.

  • Maintains current knowledge of print technologies with a basic knowledge of related digital application.

  • Originates new concepts and maintains existing branded elements for conference marketing, product promotions, logos, journalism/publication design, reports, advertisements, books, brochures, websites, electronic customer relationship management/newsletters, and graphics that follow standard digital best practices and take a user-first approach.

  • Utilizes best practices in responsive design and user experience to create the best possible user experience while achieving all of the business requirements.

  • Designs creatively for print runs and provides completed files to the printer in a format acceptable for print inspection.

  • Understands, applies, and follows brand guidelines to ensure brand is consistent across materials.

  • Maintains current knowledge of print technologies with a basic knowledge of related digital application.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related discipline

  • At least 5 years’ experience working on a design team

  • Ability to self-manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines, taking a project from concept to delivery

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills

  • Excellent conceptual and visual design skills

  • Solid understanding of responsive design, user-experience design, typography, image optimization and color theory

  • Ability to think critically, solve problems creatively and ask questions

  • Demonstrated active-listening skills and the ability to incorporate constructive criticism into designs

  • Fluent in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, specifically: Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • Travel Required: Occasional 0-10%
