SHRM Senior Project Manager, Technology Projects in Alexandria, Virginia
The Business and System Analyst team reviews, analyzes, and evaluates SHRM business systems and client needs, and manages the delivery of technical projects defined to support those needs. The department manages technical projects including back office, e-commerce, 3rd party applications, and web based systems.
The Senior Project Manager, Technology Projects provides project management, planning and assessment support for Information Technology projects and programs, as well as the evaluation of their impact to IT and overall business strategy of the organization. This includes responsibility for the planning, development, organization, and implementation of projects and programs within budget and time constraints. Partnering with vendors and internal business stakeholders, the position schedules resources, monitors task completion, ensures projects are delivered according to requirements, and provides innovative solutions to complex functional issues that impact the organization or its business groups, while ensuring minimal risk to SHRM’s strategic goals.
Support new project identification and tracking, project requirements evaluation and functional analysis. This includes collaborating with organization leaders to develop sound business cases for strategic priorities and initiatives.
Gather and organize functional and operational requirements for projects. Validate project concepts with customers and stakeholders.
Prepare proposals and review estimates with project sponsor, project owner, and other stakeholders as necessary.
Conduct cost/benefit analysis as needed for build versus buy decision points.
Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents. This includes managing all aspects of project activity, organizing and assigning responsibilities to project participants, and disseminating information to the various team members through task and sub-tasks assignment based on requirements.
Track key project milestones and adjusts project plans and/or resources to meet the needs of customers.
Effectively develop and maintain project risk mitigation and contingency plans.
Create and implement communication plans to be used throughout project life cycle.
Develop and implement best practices and tools for project execution and management.
Collect and track key metrics, analyze data and apply business knowledge to improve project/ program execution.
Develop and deliver progress reports, requirements documentation, and presentations.
Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans to bring projects back on plan or create a new plan with the assistance of key-stakeholders. This includes planning for and ensuring adequate project documentation is completed.
Contribute to strategic planning exercises where appropriate, focusing on the portfolio of projects and programs assigned and their short and long term impact on the IT and overall business strategy.

High School diploma or equivalent.
6 years of experience as a Project Manager including 4 years supporting technical projects.
Excellent problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, JIRA, and Confluence.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong presentation skills.

8 years of experience as a Project Manager supporting technical projects and programs.
4 years of experience managing enterprise scale projects.
Experience managing programs and/or portfolios, with exposure to Project Management Office concepts and principles.

Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership of wide ranging responsibilities.
