The SHRM Foundation is the 501(c)(3) philanthropic arm of the world's largest HR professional society, SHRM, the Society for Human Resource Management. The SHRM Foundation mobilizes resources, partnerships, and evidence-based programming to educate and empower HR professionals to hire diverse talent, build inclusive workplaces, and help employees find purpose at work and beyond. That work is pursued in three main pools of work: (1) broadening access to work for all, including particularly untapped pools of talent such as people with disabilities, justice-impacted individuals, and military veterans and their families; (2) expanding and diversifying the HR field, including through the distribution of scholarships, grants, and awards; and (3) tackling societal challenges that are affecting or will affect the HR field, with a particular current focus on workplace mental, physical, and social health and well-being.

SUMMARY

The SHRM Foundation’s Program Manager is a dynamic and proven leader who executes the strategy, administers, and evaluates SHRM Foundation’s programming through innovation, collaboration, and project impact.

The Program Manager is accountable for the engagement and stewardship of HR professionals and partners developing and/or participating in our programmatic offerings. This position provides programmatic and administrative responsibility for all aspects of the Foundation programming within the Program Manager’s portfolio, and is responsible for overall project management, ensuring program quality and achievement of intended impact. The Program Manager is accountable for engagement with appropriate SHRM business units to drive strong, positive relationships to the benefit of SHRM Foundation’s stakeholders.

This position will focus on the aspects of the Foundation’s work addressing and mitigating broad, emerging societal challenges that are impacting HR leaders—a body of work that currently centers on improving mental, physical, and social health and well-being in the workplace, with expanding areas of focus to be determined. In this capacity, this Program Manager should demonstrate a specific aptitude around landscape research and analysis; philanthropic and CSR/ESG-related activities, and program articulation, development, and assessment.

Responsibilities:

  • Working from, and where needed commissioning, a research base to identify current landscape, gaps and barriers to systemic shift, funding sources, and programmatic interventions within the Program Manager’s focus area.

  • Manages multiple projects and working groups simultaneously for all assigned products. Serves as a liaison to subject matter partners, industry experts, consultants, and partner institutions.

  • Provides ongoing oversight, ensuring quality control and consistency of participation and evaluation of program initiatives and components.

  • Collaborates with SHRM research and SHRM product development and certification teams to develop and maintain program products as appropriate.

  • Develops annual and monthly operational plans that align with SHRM Foundation’s strategic plan.

  • Monitors engagement and measures of effectiveness, proactively providing compelling outcome-related content for marketing purposes as well as critical progress updates, adjusting programs as needed.

  • Serves as a liaison to marketing, accounting, and other relevant departments in managing program communications and budgets and developing and overseeing contracts.

  • Actively collaborates with the SHRM Foundation Engagement and Philanthropy team to develop donor solicitation ideas and proposals, participate in donor meetings, and track the fulfillment of donor commitments related to the SHRM Foundation’s programs and initiatives, all SHRM Foundation events/conferences and awards.

  • Manages vendor relationships directly impacting SHRM Foundation inclusion initiative programs and SHRM Foundation events and awards where appropriate.

  • Represents SHRM Foundation’s efforts linked to inclusion initiative work with public relations, communications, and marketing activities.

  • Engages with SHRM Membership and Government Affairs departments related to inclusion initiatives and programs to ensure alignment, coordination of efforts, and identification of opportunities to leverage the work of the SHRM Foundation.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree is not required but will be considered. All candidates are required to demonstrate aptitude in written and verbal communications, program/project ideation and management, coalition/community of practice creation and facilitation, budget development and assessment, funder/investor relations, and people management.

  • Preferred knowledge of the HR field.

  • Knowledge of the HR field; formal/professional knowledge of the mental, physical, and social health space; and an understanding of broader processes for identifying and engaging in societal and sector trends.

  • At least eight (8) years of progressive program and leadership experience, preferably within the non-profit space. Specific focus on programming, communications and public relations, and project management of products, events/convenings, and research/evaluation projects.

  • Experience in volunteer, board member, and donor management.

Certifications

  • None required.

  • Ability to articulate overarching strategy and manage multiple projects; an eye for detail paired with an appreciation and understanding of the bigger picture.

  • Outstanding sponsor/donor/investor, partner, and peer collaboration and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to speak to CEOs, practitioners, and everyone in between confidently and competently. Ability to position new ideas and ways of doing business that inspire and excite stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and grow capacity within both directly managed and informal/cross-organizational teams working towards a shared vision and goal. Highly proficient at working cross-functionally and collaboratively across departments and with separate partners and stakeholders.

  • Excellent organizational planning, presentation, and professional writing skills in English.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

Work environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • This position will be based in SHRM’s Alexandria, VA offices, and must be able to work in-person Tuesday through Thursday each week.

Travel required 20%-30% of time.
