The Manager, Educational Programs manages the development, execution, strategic direction and is accountable for meeting and growing the revenue for this $13M SHRM Educational Programs business. This includes synchronous virtual and face to face delivery and blended learning experiences delivered through SHRM’s Specialty Credential Program. The manager will oversee the overall program and project management including designing effective budget models, analyzing financial information to ensure all operations are within budget and presenting the budgets on a regular basis, and oversight of the planning, marketing plans and tactics, execution and tracking of programs through the evaluation phase. The manager uses data and research to drive decisions for program topics, locations, and mode of delivery. The manager will also be responsible for employee and people management functions from the process of hiring, leading, and developing team members to support the organization’s mission in alignment with SHRM’s culture and Guiding Principles.
Position Description
Key decision maker in all facets of business and educational programs (face to face, virtual and corporate synchronous programs) as well as programs conducted at SHRM events.
Manages, coach and develop a team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities to support and grow the SHRM Educational Programs business
Develops, maintains, and regularly evaluates and reports on the monthly and annual budget for SHRM Educational Programs. Responsible for and oversees the financial management of the seminars business, including specialty credentials by developing annual and monthly budget, monitoring budget variances and forecasts, and planning appropriate adjustments to maintain and grow profit margins.
Leads team in program management of all delivery logistics and activities as well as all vendor relations (including negotiating contract and service terms).
Advise on course curriculum to the Society's overall mission to promote business literacy and support the human resource profession, including using data analysis and market intelligence to identify topics, trends and learning models for new educational programming.
Management and oversight of effectiveness evaluation of existing programs, attendee satisfaction. Use data analysis to identify the need for new topics and deliveries based on market research, data analysis of past performance, member surveys, program evaluations, and alignment with SHRM's Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge model across all career levels.
Collaborate and advise on the marketing strategy and tactics of SHRM’s Educational Programs and SHRM PMQ, including the planning and execution of promotional campaigns, analyzing results to ensure effectiveness of plans and tactics, and a deep understanding of what drives program registration revenue to translate that into marketing tactics and campaigns.
Lead the collaboration between the education team and the events team, marketing department and other internal stakeholders on venue selection, promotional materials, financial accountabilities, and more.
Responsible for daily management of the Educational Programs business including defining program controls/processes and procedures and reporting, monitor progress to ensure milestones are met, manage the risks, and take measures to current them as they occur, management of internal and external stakeholders involved with the program success and ensure that deliverables are aligned the goals and objectives.
Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education, or related field, or 8+ years of relevant experience in Human Resources, Education and/or Training
Minimum of 8 years of experience in business, program management/development/sales and project management that include building and managing large budgets, stakeholder management, expertise in developing project plans and processes; accountability to revenue goals and strategic initiatives is required.
Minimum of 8 years in proven people management skills that include the strong ability to influence, foster and maintain collaborative relationships across the team, drive innovative behavior and encourage team members to add value through continuous improvement, and the maturity to deal professionally and confidentially with employees, vendors, and team members.
Strong experience and successful track record in advising and driving marketing promotions and campaigns using customer insights and translating that into business and marketing strategy
Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, analytical, decision-making, and strategic thinking; familiarity with forecasting methods and data analysis
Customer service oriented; strong stakeholder management skills
Proven ability to manage and deliver multiple projects on time
Ability to work in a high-paced environment
Ability to innovate and manage risks effectively
Strong negotiating, collaboration, and team building skills
Excellent communication skills, including editing, writing and verbal skills
Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, budgeting and financial analysis platforms and database applications
Ability to work positively with partners in coalitions, in teams, and independently
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.
Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Work Environment
Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.
Travel Required: Moderate 20-30%
