The Digital Content Manager is a dynamic position at the center of all that SHRM publishes for its members, prospective members and business leaders who visit SHRM's digital platforms. This position provides a critically important service through the daily management of editorial content and interactive features on SHRM's website via our content-management system, and works across multiple departments and with external resources to plan, create, edit and publish text and multimedia content as needed by all relevant SHRM constituencies and teams. The Digital Content Manager also oversees the work of SHRM's HR Resources editors and the members-only content they produce; implements a wide range of cutting-edge digital initiatives while striving to increase digital traffic and attract new visitors through targeted and insightful interactive content.

Your Day:

  • Manages and updates textual and multimedia editorial content provided by the editorial team and all other relevant SHRM departments across SHRM’s digital platforms using SHRM’s content-management system (SharePoint).

  • Supervises a team of editors who create and publish member-only tools and samples content.

  • Works directly with each discipline editor to identify multimedia news and interactive features to accompany their content for all publishing formats and collaborates with the creative services team to execute on those features for use across multiple digital channels.

  • Uses editorial judgment to prioritize the relevance of content to all readers and delivers that content in a compelling way designed to maximize visits, clicks and time on site.

  • Writes compelling content headlines and summaries and selects images and video that complement each article.

  • Serves as a back-up for all newsletter production and publication.

  • Is fluent in the technical tools required to produce and manage the web site and newsletters, including a range of curation and graphics tools, and can troubleshoot issues on those platforms as needed.

  • Continuously makes SEO improvements to content across SHRM.org, monitors site search analytics and routinely identifies and leads redesigns of our page templates and smaller experiences.

  • Works effectively with the VP-Editorial, the Online News Director, the Discipline News Editors and others across the organization and accepts feedback from all to maintain a high-quality site.

  • Works effectively under deadline to produce timely content while maintaining the flexibility to alter course as needed.

  • Closely monitors traffic metrics and identifies modifications to capitalize on trends; strives to increase unique visitors and page views; and helps sets goals for the growth of key metrics.

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor'sDegree

  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively complex professional experience in digital and/or editorial content.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing and editing a website under deadline in an editorial environment.

  • Proven track record of having excellent editorial judgment, writing and editing skills.

  • Is metrics minded with demonstrated experience crafting compelling headlines and copy that have resulted in increased open and click-through rates.

  • Experience with SharePoint, WordPress and/or other CMS and publishing tools, as well as experience with the range of software needed to produce a high-quality website.

  • Experience with basic editing and publishing of digital video and audio content.

  • Knowledge of SEO best.practices and web standards for content

  • Has proficient knowledge of HTML, CSS and other web-publishing languages, as well as Google Analytics and/or other leading web analytics systems.

  • Proven website management capability

  • Solid news judgment

  • Proven writing and editing ability.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact productively with the editorial team

  • Ability to juggle variety of work tasks, projects and plans within deadline

Physical Requirements

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing andtyping. Visual acuity to use a keyboard,prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computerterminal; extensive reading.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • This job requires occasional travel 0-10%.
