The Lead Specialist, Data Science is responsible for applying statistical and data mining tools to develop insight from various human capital and economic data streams, transforming insights into compelling stories, infographics and data visualizations. In addition, this role is responsible for overseeing the design and maintenance of the relational infrastructure that houses the data.
Partnering closely with IT, lead the creation and maintenance of a data lake/data layer of all available data (structured and unstructured).
Guide data architecture to support various informational/data views.
Provide strategic information and data/architectural services.
Create narrative, editorially-guided products including, but not limited to reports, whitepapers, blog posts, web pages, and interactive products that engage diverse audiences with human capital research.
Design, manage, coach and/or conduct research using multiple methods and analytical techniques to answer questions.
Manage the analytic project lifecycle from initial concept through iteration and final delivery.
Create analytic plans, translate business problems/opportunities into analytic approaches. Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand each business question. Probe for hidden questions and goals. Brings structure to each research question and translate requirements into an analytic approach.
Transform analytic results into graphic visualizations and stories ranging from static graphs depicting traditional statistical analyses to web-enabled interactive graphics.
Provide insight on the best analytic and visualization techniques for different types of data, and the limitations of certain techniques.
Present data to enable audiences to see threads, allowing them to ask better questions, leading to improved strategies.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Quantitative Social Science, or similar quantitative program which includes machine learning, and data storytelling/data visualization.
At least eight (8) years data analytics experience to include data mining, data science, database architecture, predictive analysis, time series analysis, and machine learning.
Demonstrated experience gathering and understanding data.
Experience managing the analytic project lifecycle.
Comfortable developing visualizations such as narrative editorially-guided, interactive data exploration, dashboards, and time series analysis methods.
Experience working with Netsuite and Salesforce.
Experience designing and maintaining large relational databases.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, rigorous data-centric environment, by successfully interacting and collaborating with product owners, managers, and senior management regarding business challenges and research needs.
Familiarity using data science methods related to data architecture, data munging, data and feature engineering, and predictive analytics.
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Quantitative Social Science, or similar quantitative program which includes machine learning, and data storytelling/data visualization.
Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.
Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.
Travel Required: Occasional 0-10%
