SUMMARY

SHRM’s paid internship program enables students to participate in valuable real-world work experience through a variety of tailored assignments within their areas of interest and fields of study. Students will be tasked with different team specific projects, tasks, and participate in professional development projects and events to prepare them for their future careers. The Workplace Innovation Intern will be responsible for supporting the SHRMLabs team and the various programs it runs. SHRMLabs functions as a think tank within SHRM’s Knowledge Division, and is staffed by a team whose principal mission is elevating HR as a thought-leader in workplace tech, and defining how disruptive technologies (e.g. blockchain, virtual reality, automation, artificial intelligence, voice, etc.) will define the future of work in the next 10-20 years. This is a paid internship at a starting rate of $20.00/Hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of WorkplaceTech Community building initiatives, such as virtual events and community engagement.

  • Assisting in crafting the product positioning, engagement, and product marketing strategy.

  • Moderating community forums and social media accounts, ensuring a safe and respectful online environment

  • Conducting user research and analyzing data to inform community strategy and decision-making

  • Collaborating with the development team to create and maintain community-focused features on the website or platform

  • Providing support to community members, addressing any questions or concerns in a timely and professional manner

  • Assisting in creating and curating content for the community, such as articles, tutorials, and discussions

  • Tracking community metrics and producing regular reports to evaluate the success of initiatives and identify areas for improvement

  • Staying current on industry trends and best practices in online community development and management

  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to the overall development of the community strategy.

  • Carry out division-specific tasks/activities as assigned by the supervisor throughout the duration of the internship

  • Manage deliverables and provide regular updates

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Preferred fields of study: pursuing a bachelor’s in Technology, Communications, Data Science, Marketing or other related fields

  • 0-3 years of relevant work experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Preferred familiarity with web technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as experience with web development tools like WordPress or Wix

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills: effectively communicate with community members, both in moderating discussions and in providing support

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking: identifies and analyze challenges and opportunities in the community, and to develop creative solutions

  • Passion for online communities and technology: interested in and enthusiasm for the development and growth of online communities, as well as a general understanding of technology and how it can be used to support communities

  • Collaboration and teamwork skills: works effectively with a team and to contribute to a positive and productive team environment while also following directions

  • Professional demeanor

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment

  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work environment

  • SHRM does operate under a hybrid work schedule and will require you to be in SHRM’s headquarters in Alexandria, VA on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays will be working remotely.

  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.
