The Instructional Designer supports the development and delivery of SHRM’s eLearning and Seminar product portfolio directed to both organizations and human resource professionals. These products help human resource professionals develop their skills, competencies, and in turn, support the advancement of the HR profession. In this capacity, the Specialist applies proven instructional design methodologies to analyze, design, develop, customize, and maintain eLearning programs and Seminars, in alignment with organizational goals, strategies, and competencies.

Your Day:

  • Update program materials annually to support 40+ in person and 40+ virtual courses to ensure intellectual property is protected and cascade any template adjustments.

  • Identify and implement content updates by working with the Instructional Design Manager, instructors, and evaluation data.

  • Designs and develops new eLearning, instructor-led training, and virtual training for internal and external audiences.

  • Create course materials including PPT slides, participant guides, workbooks, activity handouts and virtual classrooms.

  • Support the creation of materials for the onsite training and development team for custom program experiences by ensuring SHRM quality and branding is maintained.

  • Serve as support to the Manager of Instructional Systems Design in research, schedule coordination and logistical support as needed.

  • Provide detailed course feedback in peer review sessions for all developed courses and assessments.

  • Facilitate and implement feedback for editorial reviews for new and redesigned programs by working both with the editor and the Senior Instructional Designer.

  • Attend pilot deliveries of new or redesigned programs to observe and provide feedback on the learner experience.

  • Applies adult learning principles, theories and practices when designing and developing content, to ensure adult learners are engaged, retain content, and implement what they learned to improve their own, and their organization’s performance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience developing courses, online training, instructor-led training and/or adult learning theory; or 5 years of experience in lieu of a degree

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Word and Excel to support course material development and maintenance.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to effectively listen, understand and implement changes across course materials.

  • Team player with strong work ethic and strong collaboration skills.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

  • A passion to learn and grow in the field of adult education.

Let Us Know if You Have:

  • Knowledge and experience in Education or Human Resources field a plus.

  • Familiar with basic methodology of instructional design and adult learning theory

  • Proficient with Adobe Connect, Adobe Creative Suite and eLearning authoring tools

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • Travel Required: Occasional 0-10%
