The Associate Specialist, Staff Accountant - Accounts Payable performs a variety of accounting clerical tasks related to the maintenance of vendor records and processing of vendor invoices for the Society of Human Resource Management and its affiliates and subsidiaries to support efficient and effective accounts payable processes.

Your Day:

  • Review and process all vendor invoices and employee out-of-pocket reimbursements.

  • Ensure all invoices and expense reports are properly coded, include the appropriate supporting documentation, and are approved prior to payment issuance.

  • Work with Admin Services to ensure that 1099 vendor records are set up correctly.

  • Verify and ensure transactions comply with financial policies and procedures established by the Society.

  • Research and resolve any questions related to employee expense reports and vendor payments.

  • Research and reconcile vendor aging statements.

  • Provide courteous customer service to all SHRM staff and outside vendors.

  • Act as accounting and technical system resource for the staff, by providing guidance and feedback on daily operation and accounts payable questions.

  • Create and update documentation for Accounts Payable processes to improve efficiencies.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Must Haves:

  • Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field

  • 0-2 years of experience in accounts payable.

  • Solid understanding of accounts payable principles and the accounts’ payable function.

  • Experience working with an automated accounting system, preferably NetSuite

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and strong proficiency in Excel.

  • Ability to manage a high volume of payables transactions.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial data.

  • Must demonstrate excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills and diligence.

  • Ability to apply discretion and trust with confidential material.

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to stay organized in physical and digital spaces.

  • Must possess proficient ability to communicate in English in oral and written format.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.

  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • Travel Required: Occasional 0-10%
